Recent labour shortages, combined with economic growth, have forced Quebec suburban employers to step up their competitive tactics when it comes to attracting immigrant workers, including offering shuttle services to Montreal-based immigrants.
Quebecs suburbs are growing faster than the cities. The latest census data from Statistics Canada shows that over the past five years, the suburbs of Montreal have experienced three times the citys rate of job growth.
This has resulted in heightened competition among employers in the different areas vying for labour. Suburbs north of Montreal have resorted to providing transport to immigrant workers based in the city, in an effort to remain competitive with other outlying regions that have better public transportation services.
Competition for government funding has also created tensions between the suburbs. Funds are used to create various programs intended to attract immigrants, such as the bus tour service provided by ABL Immigration in St. Joseph Du Lac, QC. These tours allow immigrants to travel to the regions without worry of getting lost. They get to meet various employers and make an informed decision as to where they would like to work.
