Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - July 2009

The province of Ontario has announced a new program that will ease the reaccreditation process for immigrant lawyers.

The Internationally Trained Lawyers Program, a joint venture between the University Of Toronto Law School and the Ontario Government, will be tailored specifically to foreign law professionals.

The program, which will start next year with approximately 100 students, will be an intensive tutorial on the aspects of law that are more specifically Canadian, such as constitutional law. The aim is to help ease the re-examination process for immigrants who, though licensed in their home country, may not be familiar with the nuances involved in the Canadian legal system.

It would be almost like a crash course, said the director of the U of Ts Centre for the Legal Profession. More intensive, more practical, and more focused on conveying information thats going to be necessary to get them up to speed quickly to pass their challenge exams.

The program will also offer a slew of other assistance to foreign-trained lawyers such as mentoring, CV and interview tutorials, and technical language training.
