A new report predicts that British Columbia will lead all other Canadian provinces for economic growth in 2010.
The report, compiled by the Conference Board of Canada, states that the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, coupled with resurgences in the manufacturing and forestry sectors, will propel the B.C. economy to 3.7 percent growth in the coming year.
"The recovery in Central and Western Canada began to take shape in the last few months and will continue to do so through 2010. In fact, all provinces are expected to post positive economic growth this year," said the Conference Boards Marie-Christine Bernard.
That growth is largely due to government stimulus spending but overall recovery in the private sector over the next two years will be a surprisingly strong, according to the Board.
Though B.C. will lead all provinces, similar turnarounds in the automobile and energy industries will boost the economies in Ontario and Alberta, respectively. Overall economic growth in Canada is expected to hit 2.8 percent in 2010.
