Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - December 2007

In recent years, Alberta and British Columbia have become renowned across Canada for their growth. Thousands of Canadians and immigrants have flocked to the two most western provinces, Alberta in particular, in search of better opportunities.

However, the massive influx of people has resulted in an undesirable side effect; the cost of living in both provinces has substantially increased as developers struggle to, and often fall short of meeting housing requirements.

In the meantime, another province has emerged as a contender in Canadas economic sphere. Saskatchewan is seeing remarkable growth as its expanding job market has just matured enough to attract attention, now finding itself on the brink of a boom, without yet reaching a supply-side bust.

As in Alberta, Saskatchewan has the energy sector to thank for its positive position, pointed out Herald business columnist Charles Frank in an article on the situation. The Fraser Institute tabbed Saskatchewan as the most welcoming jurisdiction in the country to carry on oil and gas exploration and development. Whats more, this study was carried out long before the debate in Alberta over oil revenues ruffled more than a few business feathers.

Analysts such as Frank, assert that Albertas policies over its energy resources are driving away investors, who are taking their dollars to Saskatchewan. A new discovery in the provinces Southeast of up to 100 billion barrels of crude oil, partnered with a highly business-minded new government is generating a lot of buzz and excitement and finally is stealing some thunder from the juggernaut that was Alberta.
