Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - July 2008

The Department of Citizenship and Immigration has just announced a new agreement between Canada and Poland that will ease youth mobility between the two nations.

The plans for the agreement, which will allow young people from one country to travel and work in the other, were first mentioned by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during a trip to Poland earlier this year.

Similar agreements have been made by Canada with as many as 40 countries worldwide. Such programs have allowed for over 22,000 young citizens of Canada to travel abroad and over 36,000 foreign youth to come to here.

Canadian immigration history has strong ties to Poland, as it is estimated that over 800,000 Canadians can trace their roots to the country.

"Canada and Poland have a long standing and strong relationship," said Minister of Foreign Affairs David Emerson. "We co-operate in many areas to promote our common values of good governance, democracy and private sector development."
