I'm a bit confused about this............  I'm going to sponsor my wife, though I heard income doesn't matter for spousal visa, but still this question bothers me...Amount- 12-month period starting - and ending- what does this means? my total 12 months income before the date of my application? do I have to do some estimation? like if I apply this May 2012, it would be my total income from May 2011 - April 2012 ? since CRA calculations doesn't matter coz it's my 2011 total net income, I have to calculate my own net income from May 2011 - April 2012 ? can any body clarify this for me please.... ------------- 1/5/10-Nomination approved in canada 1/20/10-Documents sent in Manila 2/1/10-Processing started 2/5/10-Med request 2/18/10-Med Sent 5/13/10-PPR 6/7/10-Docs Sent 7/1/10-DM July 15,2010 - VISA RECIEVED |

The application form is used for all types of family class sponsorships, some of which have an income requirement. So, while you should write in an honest figure, it can be an average of your monthly net income over the 12 months preceding the date of the application. You will also be submitting an Option C print out from CRA for the most recent tax year, and a letter of employment. So, while there is no minimum income requirement for spousal sponsorships, they do still want to know that you can reasonably be expected to be able to support your sponsored family member without having to collect social assistance. There is a section of the IRPA that supports the refusal of a spousal ap on financial grounds if a sponsor is unemployed and the officer is not convinced that the applicant is "willing and able" to support him/herself.

so the question is, whats the amount do I need to write? the total net income for 12 month preceding? or my monthly net income for the 12 month preceding? like if I earn $1,600 a month with tax not included, should I write $1,600(montly income) or $19,200(total income for 12 months) ?

oh okay, so I just need to give them my monthly net income for the 12 months preceding then, just like this for example Amount- $ 1,600 12-month period starting - May 2011 and ending- April 2012 is this right? sorry for bugging, I just wanna make sure before I submit the documents

It's the 12-month period, not what you earn each month. I entered the 12-month period as January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 (application received on April 13 in Missisauga). I included my statements of earnings and benefits from my employer for the years 2010 and 2011, along with pay stubs for my current contract (8 in total). I did not submit an Option C because i have been a non-resident since 2001. Instead, i had my Chinese tax assessment for 2010 notarized and translated (most recent one until the Chinese government releases the 2011 assessments). I also submitted an original letter from my employer and a job offer in Canada with a yearly salary of CAD$70,000. There will not be a problem as long as you have provided adequate proof of your financial status. There is no minimum income requirement. Good luck! FS |

Q#12 says "Net personal income for the 12 month period preceding the date of your application", and then it has space for an amount, and places for dates beginning and ending. So, clearly, the figure that needs to go in there is the total net for the 12 months - not a monthly amount. Also, it is the 12 months up to the date of application. The Option C you provide will be for a tax year, not for the same period as the 12 months preceeding the application date (unless you file in January of a given year). Also, the figure on the Option C assessment is a gross income figure, not net - so the Option C is not a supporting document, per se. And you don't need to include paystubs. As I explained earlier - there is no minimum income requirement to sponsor a spouse. Don't overthink this. If you have a job, include a letter of employment, your Option C assessment from the most recent tax period, and stick a total average net income figure for the last 12 months into Q#12 on the form and you'll be set.  It's really not rocket science!
