Hi Ladies & gentlemen,

Since there are not a lot of Vancouver applicants on this forum it's hard to estimate how fast the Vancouver office is.

My application was transfered on December 7,2009. Any guess of when I will take the test ?

March, May, June  2010, 2012,2054 (if I'm still alive)

You will surely know the your test btw Feb ending or early march.

Normally 3months after transfer to local office in Vancouver.

Relax! and keep reading the test booklet.

Hello Blknw,

Thanks for your answer.

I have started reading "a look at Canada" but I might have to study "Discover Canada". I don't know which test I will take so I prefer to wait for my test invitation to really study hard.

Ubcer,

By "received" do you mean delivered to CIC Sidney or ecas updated as "received".

I really think the Olympics will screw everything up. The CIC agents will most likely take some days off to see events or will be volunteers .... Dead

Do you really believe  the test will be for somebody on February 2010?, I really don't think so, the best shot will be March 2010 and over. My guess...Unhappy

If CIC reads all my complains I will certainly be one of the guinea pig !

I just want the all process to be over. I would like to travel in Quebec & Ontario but I can't plan anything because of the test and oath ceremony.  After all the new booklet name is "Discover Canada". I would love to but CIC is preventing me for doing it LOL

They might send the booklet per client ID and not per applications. I'm sure you will receive it shortly.

Otherwise do you have any new about your test ?

Absolutely nothing new. I have two friends(family) who got the new book in mailbox yesterday ( same time line like me, same Vancouver CIC office), Today my wife received the book I checked my online status nothing changed , I checked my wife online status the same like mine. When we got first acknowledgment letter from Sydney we got Both books in the same envelope. Vancouver office process separately the applications?, I mean it is possible to have the test in a  day   totally different my wife gets her test?

Hi,

I'm sure Vancouver will process both applications together. However I don't have the knowledge to tell if you will take the test the same day as your wife. Other members should be able to answer that question. You might want to contact CIC sometimes next week and ask if you will also receive a copy of the new booklet.

Hi Sayo,

Could you please tell us when exactly in September you sent your application?

It has been almost 10 months since I sent my application. I have not taken my test yet but I suspect that it will be in March (11 months after sending my application).

However no one knows what will be the processing time in the next few months. It could be shorter thanks to the new application form or longer if CIC cannot get ride of the backlogs.

I hope my answer will help you making a decision. I'm sure that more members will also share their point of view.

sayo, did you ask CPC Sydney to open your application quickly the 2nd time since you already waited the 5 months before?
Why should an applicant wait 6 months again for application check, etc!

Hi,

I just called CIC Sydney to ask them a specific question. I also took the opportunity to ask for an update.

My application is perfectly normal so everything is going smoothly. I was so happy until she told me that I should receive the test invitation letter within 2-3 months. Broken Heart

The CIC agent was very nice & polite  ....  but I definitively  don't like her answer. I hope she is wrong !

CIC Victoria is even worse... a bunch of us had their file transferred in August 2009 and we are just getting our letters for tests in February 2010...

Posted By: happytaz
Date Posted: 29 Jan 2010 at 6:01pm
I hope it is a mistake but the ton of her voice sounded like she was sure of herself !

If she is right we will take the test 4-5 months after the transfer to the Vancouver office. CIC Vancouver might be off during the Olympics.

I don't know if CIC Sydney can really have access to the local offices information.

It's a shame. 7 months between the transfer and the test invitation letter.

I wonder what the can possibly do during 7 months !

Hey Happytaz and Canvis...thank you for your answers;

I sent my application again on September 14 and yes I tried to call but it is impossible to get through that freaking line; every time I waited and waited so long that I eventually gave up.

Anyways my European dreams this summer is most likely going down the drain according to the time line you guys gave. The Canadian Citizenship process is so slow and bad, I have to wait 5 month to get an answer to only say that I have put March as 3 in my application instead of 4; wait another 5 month to reopen my corrected application again. It is simply unfair.Cry
Angry
Well it seems there is nothing I can do for now, wait and see, this coming summer is going to be another boring one stock in Vancouver....gosh can't wait to be free with Canadian Passport.

Hi ayo_2006,
I really feel sorry for what happened to you, but please explain, what wa sthe exact problem? you mentioned that there was a date error, have you dated your application as March 3 instead of 4?
Is there any other document along your application that had been dated diferently?
Please explain the date error further..
Thnx.

i know someone who signed application on a different date than his minor kid so cic returned the application asking main applicant and minor in same application should sign on same date. the applicant corrected the date issue but called cic asking he should not have to wait 5 months again for application to be opened. He told me cic agreed to his request.

Yes, minors applications should be submitted with at least one of the parents application (if the parents are applying for citizenship), minor application can't be processed seperately in case no one of the parents is already a citizen.
So, CIC officer was right when returned the 2 seperate applications to be dated and submitted in the same envelop and on same date.
But again, what was your issue exactly in regard to the date error?

Yes my issue was that the date I signed and date the application as 06/03/2009 but it was actually in march so I should have put 06/04/2009.

The error here was a month difference because I thought that march=03rd month of the year instead of march=04th; so the application was returned and I was asked to do everything all over again including changing all the dates to current date that was September 10 2009. (I didn't need to pay the fee again though)
  Stupid error I know!!
So that was the error that I needed to correct but now I try to call these guys but I can never get through their busy lines!!

any advice guys?

I appreciate any help

My friend who made error is asking his son to sign on a different date than him, called CIC and it was agreed
a) he should not have to pay fees again
b) he should not have to wait another 5 months for his application to be opened
Only then, he sent out the application.

In your case, it seems you already have sent out the application, without talking to CIC. Will CIC give you a 5 month break, is questionable?. But still you can call them, made them aware of the situation and with your receipt number or ID number on application, they might put you in Sept applicants line.

Shan we received test notification and did the test same day. Nov 4 2009 and
  Dec 1 test day.

I believe the Oath might be toward ending of March/April 2010...with the little research i conducted myself.
November test taker should be taking Oath this month,if not because of the Olympics games.
Well, you can still make it,if CIC Vancouver is going to give Oath to more than 80pp per ceremony they normally do in March to November test takers.

Hi everyone,

I just called CIC (Call centre in Sidney) about CIC Vancouver closing during the Olympics. Sadly for us it is not a rumor.

CIC Vancouver is closed from Janyuary 29th to March 19th therefore the employees will not be working on applications, no tests or oath ceremonies will be scheduled.

It is outrageous ! Angry

At least we know that we can start studying "Discover Canada"

What is the reason?
Somebody should complain to the minister....

The agent told me " CIC Vancouver is closed because of the Olympic games". That's it.

I don't know the reasons behind this and I don't understand why the government cannot offer the same services during the Olympics.

The big mystery is : How CIC Vancouver is going to catch-up after almost 2 months of inactivity.

The prime minister shut down the hall parliament. What do you expect? Complaining to Minister Jason Kenney won't change anything. He's probably behind this decision. You have the right to be pissed off, though if this can bring you some solace: Here in Montreal even without Olympic games we still have longer waiting time.

Called the Sidney office this week and indeed it is the case. The Vancouver office will be closed during the Olympics, though the operator did not know when the office would open again. I am still wishfully hoping it would just be for the duration of the regular Olympics which would be Feb 28.

here are the dates for the Olympics:
Olympic Winter Games: February 12 to 28, 2010
Paralympic Winter Games: March 12 to 21, 2010

If somebody gets the chance to call them again and grab more information, I would appreciate hearing more about it. Cause honestly the closing dates of Jan 29-March 19 is absurd. So what happened to the lost two weeks prior to the commencement of the Olympics and to the 2 weeks between the two Olympics for that matter.

Hi everyone !

It's been a while since I wrote on this forum. Obviously there is nothing new with my application because of the Olympics. I just wanted to say hi.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the Olympics.  I have never seen Vancouver so alive !

Is there any psychic on this forum who is able to estimate when April applicants will have their tests ?

See you in March or April or May ...... who knows !

Yes Vancouver is very busy ! There are so many things to see.

I have been to several pavilions : Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba.  I'm studying for my test !!!!

I went to several concerts. I'm going to see the "Cowboy fringants" on Sunday after my hockey game.

Time is flying ......which is good. I don't have the time to think about my citizenship.

Good luck everyone !

Hi,

The thread is dead because all the CIC Metro Vancouver offices are closed until March 19th

Nothing new but I called CIC Sidney last week. I asked if by any chance CIC Vancouver would be open before March 19th. The nice lady told me that " No, we have confirmation that it will be closed until March 19th".

She also told me that they don't know yet how they are going to catch up after 2 months and half of vacation ... whoops I meant inactivity.

I can't wait for March 19th but I know that it doesn't mean I will receive my test date right the way.

Hey Guys,

I was also told that they were closed until March 19th by CIC. However, I landed at Vancouver CIC office yesterday (March 3rd).  They were open. It was for Permanent Residency.

Citizenship office in Vancouver office location is different front Cic immigration office
   located @ Horny.

Two diff., functions...Citizenship office @ expo bolvd is the one  that was closed till March 19.

Went to CIC location at 877 Expo BLvd, Suite 200.  They were open on March 3rd. I too was told they would be closed because of the Olympics, so I was surprised when I received my landing letter for March 3rd. There were at least 30 people there for landing too. The Vancouver Paralympic does not start until March 12, so maybe they decided to continue some service until then. The road was still closed off when I went there.

Hello all Vancouver 2009/2010 applicants,

I was wondering how you feel about the closure of the normal functions of the Vancouver CIC Offices due to the Winter Olympics, regardless of whether or not the Offices are actually physically open.  Let's face it. Vancouver is already one of the slower or the slowest areas in processing. On top of that, now they stop working on the applications because of the sports events. Yes, they are  big, but whatever the reason, that kind of inactivity or near-inactivity is NOT fair, because it does affect so badly in so terrible ways. It is not like a couple of weeks, which perhaps can be considered kind of reasonable given the special circumstances. The fact is, it is almost 2 MONTHS! And we all know what this means to us!

I still can't believe what has been happening. In fact, I hope they are wrong. I really do. But what the CIC Call Centre agents (Telephone: 1-888-242-2100) say can't be wrong, can it? Again, I really do hope they are wrong about this totally ridiculous, crazy suspension or reduction of government services in one particular area for such a significant amount of time, even when it is already bad.

Different people have different reasons to want to get C. citizenship, but there is only one goal and thread that bring all of us together here. We truly, truly, truly want to get it (this stressful, exhausting process) over with as soon as possible, don't we?

Any information, updates, or thoughts? Have a great one!

Best Wishes,
E

As far as the processing time of C. citizenship goes, it is so full of mysteries, so serious inconsistencies, and so huge and wild discrepancies/variances. Interestingly, in many cases people who applied in June 2009, and even in late June, are getting notified of their citizenship test. Even more interesting, many of those who applied in May or June 2009 are done with the oath ceremony and are already C. citizens, while so many who applied in March or April 2009 or even before are still waiting for the test schedule to be made. It takes only a little bit of browse around the relevent threads to see how true this is.

How to explain all of this? Depends on the area? Depends on the case? Are those "real" reasons, or just so CONVENIENT... ? As someone in the Forum put it, the whole system is so F~....

4.5 months? UNBELIEVABLE!!! Isn't it the final steps (test - oath) that are supposed to take the shortest time, normally one or two months at longest? What the hell is wrong with Vancouver CIC? What's the real reason for this RIDICULOUS delay in Vancouver?

By the way, does anybody know their phone number, I mean Vancouver CIC, not the Call Center (1-888---)?

Also, is it OK to visit Vancouver CIC in person? Anyone has tried for whatever reason?

Edwa,

On April 7th it will be 4 months since my application was transferred to Vancouver. It will also be exactly a year since I sent my application.... still I don't know when I will get my test. I expect the Oath waiting time to be even worst.

The Olympic games have really screwed up the Vancouver timeline. I really think that Vancouver and Montreal are the slowest offices in Canada. The backlog will get worst and worst if CIC Vancouver doesn't add more test dates and Oath ceremonies.  But do they care .... I doubt it.

I don't have CIC Vancouver phone # but I would be more than happy to give them a call. You can try to go in person but I doubt that they will release specific information.  If you decide to go please let us know the outcome.

courage !

Hi Happytaz
Montreal and Calgary are the worst... my super exploding waiting time is not that unusual here. There's a legion of cursed applicants here and in Calgary local CIC.
If this can bring you some solace, know that even there's been the Olympic games backlog there, you still in a better place...

Mrstacation,

I bet you that in 6 months we will realize that Vancouver is as worst as Montreal & Calgary.  At least Montreal & Calgary offices were opened the past 2 months. Oath and test dates were scheduled, some RQ were processed ....

Vancouver applicants will notice the timeline "damages"very soon.

happytaz, I'll see what I can.

I am even considering moving to one of the "faster" cities within BC. It may sound kind of crazy, I mean, to move just to get c. earlier. But in Vancouver it is so TERRIBLE! Even worse, it will probably get worse and worse, as you said.

Despite that, one of the things that holds me back is the concern that it may actually delay even more than when I stay in Vancouver. They say moving always delays the process... Otherwise, I will probably put it into action....

Any thoughts?

Hi Edwa
Changing address once the application processing is started is one of the reasons given by CIC to explain long processing timelines. It could turn to be worst than leaving the application on its regular course. Unless someone has to relocate for other reasons, I won't recommend such move.

Hi everyone
In addition to providing the new test based on Discover Canada http://www.v-soul.com/onlinetest/ - http://www.v-soul.com/onlinetest/ , this site has a database of timelines: http://www.v-soul.com/casedb/view.html - http://www.v-soul.com/casedb/view.html
The least I can do is to share my timeline there as well, by the same token I urge you to do the same.

Edwa-Blknw

I had my test done on 28th Oct 2009, and nothing heard from them since then. However I was asked to complete R.Q with the supporting documents and I submitted them on my test date as they requested (apporx 500 pages proof of residency I provided). Perhaps this have slowed down the process of my case but it's getting really ridiculous cause nothing wrong with my required time in Canada, the only reason I had to receive that dam RQ I think cause I went 5 times in and out of the country during the first 3 years. Every time I call CIC they tell me my file is supper great and it’s a matter of time to schedule my oath... it’s really frustrating and am kinda giving up of this citizenship now.

Anybody received RQ during this period and been called for the Oath Recently? Please share your experience if you have one..Thanks

Hope you get your oath soon. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Did CIC tell you the reason for RQ?

happytaz,  I have noticed that your file started to be processed in October 2009 and was transferred to Vancouver in December 2009. Oh my.., Considering the timeline, it does make a whole lot of sense to be upset!!! Did they request you for the damn RQ or something? Otherwise, it is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
