Quick question everyone... How much did everyone pay for their spouses PR application?

I just found out Nairobi is waiting for the Right to permanent residence fee ($490)  and my MP's office will find out what payments they have and what is missing as I am pretty sure I paid for that... My bring forward date is January 7, 2010... YAY, it is almost here! A little over 1 month to go!  :) :) :)

Thanks,

Shahed

Hey the PR application is $1040.00 But you can decide to pay first $550.00 then pay the Right of PR fees mid way as they process; but its recommended not to wait until they ask for it!!
As for me; i paid the first 550.00 in mississauga then attemps to pay the 490.00 in Nairobi was rejected and they advised me to pay it in CPC-MISS., which I did in August 2009.
----
I am also wondering; how long does it take to get an answer from Nairobi; through an MPs office??
Please answer me;
Thanks

Ian - My MP's office responded back to me the next day...

Phew... I actually did pay $1040.00... Now it's time to sort out this little mess that I did not pay my wife's Right to permanent residence fee.  Dealing with Immigration Canada is THE MOST frustrating process ever!

Hi Ermikyimer - My bring forward date is January 7, 2010 so still a month to go before I hear anything.  It's a shame I cannot spend the holidays together with my wife.  I will probably be making a trip to Tanzania in the early new year...

Thanks,

hey all, no news yet from me, its been more than 2 month now since medical redo. hoping that i hear somethings in the coming weeks, by the way would they still ask for an interview after asking for medical redo?

Posted By: ourkid8
Date Posted: 07 Dec 2009 at 5:09pm

abyssinian - The embassy can ask for an interview at any point in the process... Typically,  once they ask you to redo your medicals you "should" be on the home stretch... We have to remember though, we are working with a group of incompetent Canadians in Nairobi; Typical useless guv employees...

I forgot to mention,  have you requested CAIPS notes?

Thanks,

There was a glim of hope sometime in November, but all of you have gone silent!!

ourkid,
its been a year since i orderd caips and also my wife went to her mp office and  they didnt help that much , i think i will order caips again this time around. by the way when was ur medical redo letter dated? and the gap between it ur bring forward date?
my medical redo letter  was dated sept. 11 2009, and recieved it on sept 24,  may be we could guess my bring forward date.
thanks.

The letter to redo my wife's medicals was dated October 14th and I received it on October 31st.  Which means from October 14th  to January 7th (bring forward date) is 86 days.  That is significantly longer then the 45 days mentioned in the letter....

Based on my timeline, your bring forward date should be around the first week of December.  Hopefully you hear from the embassy soon!

Thanks,

Shahed

Am a February 2009 applicant, My CAIPS had September 03, 2009 as the bring fwd date; so does this mean I have to wait for 86days to hear from them?? Again my med expire mid jan 2010.

I heard somewhere that its not good  to bug them (Nairobi officers)  with too much correspondence.
I dont know how true this is.....

Hi All

I received a letter dated nov 18 requesting my wife to forward her passport and 4 pics and pay the right to permanent resident fee.  Hopefully this is the last step.  I am forwarding the info to them today. i have also informed them of the birth of our son and started his citizenship application.
i will have to get him a passport once she gets her visa.

Posted By: ourkid8

Hi Samy, that is great news... Congrats!!!  Did you initially pay the right to permanent resident fee? I already paid the full amount ($1040) and my MP's office is looking to see why it is showing up that I did not pay the full fee... The embassy is asking your wife to resend her passport pictures for a 3rd time?

Based on your timeline, it shows it took just under 2 months for the embassy to ask for a PPR request.  Which means, I should be hearing back from the embassy early in the New Year which coincidently aligns with my bring forward date!  YAY!!!  :)

gakians - You will most likely have to have your wife redo her medicals again when asked for them... Cry

To Sammy: Congrats Sammy! I hope all goes well as planned and you will be home an happy soon.
Ourkid: Thanks for your views; am really thinking about it. By the way is it a good idea to redo medicals before they send us a request? How long in advance do they send a re-do med letter before they expire? I know of a friend who was issued with visa 10days b4 medicals expired....

To the Forum : Lets keep pace with the discussion and share or answer questions as much and as best as we can. Some members are just butting into the forum with their own personal stories instead of first answering the current question at hand or on helping a stranded friend.... When we do this, then the forum is more beneficial, interactive and informative. Those comments, opinions, advise and past experiences really the forum members help a lot as we sail through a common goal & destination.
thanks

Gakians....

Hi all.

Greetings from Ethiopia.

My husband received a letter from nairobi yesterday, 11 Dec.  It was dated 27 Nov.

He was asked to re-do meds and police clearance and to submit his passport one month after completing his meds and police clearance.

There was no request for more passport pics.  Was wonering if we should do them anyways so that  they have them.  Does nayone know what would be best.

I don't want to get another request in a couple months asking for new passport pics.

Am so excited b/c it seems things are finally moving for us.

We're off to Addis Monday to re-do his meds and police clearance. Can't believe something's finally happening.

Sarum, wonderful news...... Congrats!!!!!!  :)  I guess you have nothing to lose including the pictures but I personally would only send what they ask for.  You do not want the Immigration Officer questioning why you send them pictures as well.  The visa should be just around the corner, yay!  :)

What puzzles me is the inconsistency at the embassy!!!!!!! There should be a standard checklist and it seems as though they are sending letters based on the day of the week! (some asks to redo medicals & PP pic, others to redo police check and PP pic, others to redo both with no PP pics)

Congrats again and enjoy Ethiopia!  :)

Thanks,

S

Despite the inconsistencies, its seems they are still working on Jan/Feb cases for the last three months.
I would also recommend sending the pictures coz this will not cause any harm after all.
Congrats February guys!!!

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!

I asked my wife to send a case Specific enquiry and we got the following response:

"Please send us your original and valid passport in the month of January and a prepaid courier coupon for safe despatch of your documents once processing is complete. "

Our ordeal is coming to an end!!! My wife will be sending her passport via DHL on the 31st of December.  I am hoping she gets her passport back mid to late January so I can go to Tanzania and have our second honeymoon and we can come back together!  :)

To everyone, do not lose hope!  :)

Congra abyssinian....we got that same letter about 2 weeks ago.  The letter says to pay the rprf
if you have not done so, so i don't think a proof would be necessary as they would have that on
their file.  In our case, we just went to the Canadian Consulate in Addis and gave them my wife's
passport and they said it would be sent to nairobi by diplomatic bag which is sent to every friday.

Posted By: ourkid8
Date Posted: 23 Dec 2009 at 6:44am

abyssinian / samy008 - We are on the final home stretch, yay!!!  What I did was a 3 pronged approach to solve this rprf issue.  Yes, I did pay the full amount at the complete start and my MP said it shows I am missing that amount on my file.  When my wife received an email to send her passport they did not ask for the fees so I guess my 3 pronged approach worked:

-Email the embassy informing them you paid the full amount and include your receipt as an attachment (via case specific enquiry)
-Fax the embassy informing them you paid the full amount and include your receipt as an attachment
-Send a letter to the embassy informing them you paid the full amount and include your receipt as an attachment

If they see a receipt for $1040 associated to your file number, all their concerns over this fee should be alleviated and resolved.

I also forgot to include, I have been working with my MP's office as he contacted the minister of immigration.  I provided him proof that all the fees were paid so instead of a 3 pronged approach it was more like 4!  :)   One of the methods did work and that's the most important thing!

Thanks,

S

Hello everyone... My wife spoke with DHL and they do not offer prepaid courier coupons for the safe return of your passport.  What is everyone else doing?

I  guess our only option is to include a letter asking the embassy to give my wife a call or to send her an email once completed so my wife can personally pick up her passport from the embassy Nairobi.   Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Shahed

I also spoke to DHL they said the same thing,  once the visa is ready nairobi will be sending it to the embassy in addis ababa, so they are the one(the embassy in addis) who will give us the call to pick up the passport.
by the way i finally recieved a letter on friday dec. 25 "requesting the passport and pay the rprf but to ignore it if i already paid", it was dated on dec. 14.

Kaba: I think you should let them know of the EDD so that they can speed up things. At times Nairobi office gives priority to female applicants.

Harir - Sorry to hear about that, these guys are something else... What I would do is write all that information in a letter and personally hand that letter to the officer at the embassy. What you should write in the letter are the following:

·          When DMP sent the medicals and also provide DHL confirmation that they received it

·          Include the DMP's contact information so if they lost the medicals the embassy can call and ask for another copy

·          Receipt that the payment for landing has been paid

·          provide your email address and phone number so if they need to contact you quickly, they have your information readily available

Then go to the embassy and give them a copy of this letter with all that information…. It seems to me they are looking for a reason to delay approving your request and I do not want you to give them one.  Provide them all the proof they need so they can get off their ass and approve your request!

Let me know if you need any additional advice...

Thanks,

S

HI Kaba,

Welcome to the board!  :)  What I would initially do is send a letter / fax to the embassy informing them your wife is pregnant.  Based on the current processing timeline, your wife's Visa most likely will not be ready before her June delivery date...

From what I have been reading, the embassy does not care if she is pregnant and that will not speed up the process in any way.  There is absolutely nothing you can do to speed up the process and you just need to wait in queue for your turn...

Thanks,

S

Hi Kaba,

My wife also became pregnant while we were in process.  I had notified nairobi about her
pregnancy and even sent them documents, however they never responded back.  we now have
a baby and just waiting for them to issue visa for her and then we will go forward and apply for
a temporary passport for the baby.  so i suggest you let them now that your wife is expecting
and hopefully your process will be completed before she is due

Happy New Year everyone.

So good news and bad news.  As I posted before my husband got a letter to re-do his medicals and police clearance and submit his passport one month after completing his medicals.  Problem which is a copy of last year, we went to re-do his meds and they inbformed us that he would need to re-do his chest xray in 3 months so March 17th. It`s exactly what happened with our last medicals and there were no issues but apparently there is a black spot on his chest xray from an infection or something he had as a child and he also has to do the TB where you spit into a cup and they test it.

As this is exactly what happened last year, the doctor informed us that it`s just protocal and nothing to be worried about but because the old medicals are no longer valid they can`t use anything from it, so in March he`ll re-do his chest xray to prove that it`s not anything and then send in his passport.

We sent in his police clearance with a letter explaining the situation since we won`t be able to get the completed medicals to them within 60 days as stated in the letter.  I also sent in an update with case specific inquiry, so I hope that there are no problems.

The good news is that at least we know there`s no interview and now we`re just waiting but I have to say that I`m not very happy with myself for not doing the medical earlier.  We had talked about doing it a couple of months before but decided to wait and now I wish we hadn`t.  Live and learn, I guess.

Hope everyone else is doing well and that the New Year is of to a good start.

Hi Kaba,

we informed them of the pregnancy when she was 4 month pregnant and got the ultrasound.
we emailed them the doctor's pregnancy report.  then i sent an email once she was requested to
redo a medica in october.  she was 8 month pregnant at that time.  On both occasion they did not respond back at all.  The last letter is when our baby was born in November. we sent pictures and birth certificate and also copy of receipt from our childs citizenship application.

I think they are moving much faster now, so i think there is still hope your spouse will join you before your baby is born.

Hi Samy. I will inform Nairobi once I get instructions for medical redo. Thanks for your insight on this.

Gakians, I don't think the file is lost. I went through the same silence for months until they responded to an email I sent to them telling me that they will send medical instructions in January. That was few days before Christmas holidays.

Now, I haven't receive them yet. I am wondering if we should go forward and do the medical exams or wait for instructions. If someone knows, we will appreciate.

Hi all, for those whose medicals are about to expire, wait for them to send medical redo forms. It's not the same as the one for the initial medical. As for not hearing from them, that's normal. It took more than a year from the time they sent me an AOR and the time they sent medical redo forms. Hope this is helpful.

I agree with hamna!  It seems things have picked up in Nairobi so you should be hearing from the embassy over the next couple of months UNLESS they have scheduled an interview.  If you want to find out additional information, contact your MP to perform an equiry or order  your CAIPS.

Thanks,

Hey Sarum
I was wondering, when your husband got the letter to re-do the medicals, did Nairobi send him a new form that was different from the orginial medical form?

Posted By: Sarum
Date Posted: 16 Jan 2010 at 12:57am
Yes, he got a new form with a passport pic we had sent in with our application.  But I have heard of people re-doing their medicals just using the old form and sending it in and it being fine.  Though you do need to let them know that you re-did the medical.

Personally, I wish we'd re-done the medical in September as we were originally planning because this bloody ordeal would be over now.

Thanks for your input Sarum. I feel the same way. I don't want to lengthen the process more than necessary. You are right that it's a good idea to let them know so that they are expecting it. Perhaps we can send them an e-mail or I can do that through the MP.
Thanks.

I was wondering if you can help me with something. My CAIPS note does not indicate anything about the police clearance we sent or the date it expires. I am not sure if this means that they don't have it or what? What is your experience? Does it show on the CAIPS you have gotten?

Hey Kaba, I just want to know when did your Medical Expired?

Hi Ermikyimer. They expired sometimes in the third week of November 2009. I don't remember the exact date. We did not have any call from Nairobi until they responded to an email that I had sent to them a few times before Christmas holidays asking an update on our application. The response was just one sentence saying that the file was being reviewed and that in January we will receive instructions to redo medical. We received a letter from Jan 4 asking to redo medical and to send passport within 60 days.

ermikyimer: My CAIPS did not have any record of police and yet I submitted with the application. That was when the cases was at 9mths. So I guess its normal

Kaba:
Congrats for the PPR, thats the best news so far this year.

Forum: It seems that the Nairobi office is still working on February cases. Another observation is that they do not work on a file until the medicals expire or are close to expire!

My wife's medicals now expired last week; and I had even sent them a hand written note through a walk-in. And they have not responded to my email enquiry yet! its now a waiting game!

I really hope that we hear from them soon. I've sent in the request for redos-medical and police clearance, and they've had my passport for more than 2 months now. It's about time they did something. My husband is in the process of requesting for CAIPS.

Hey Gakians,
Have you gone to see your MP? Perhaps they can do an inquiry on your behalf. We did that about a month ago and nothing was done yet with the file but we have just received the medical re-do letter.

Hi gakians,  A friend of mine had the same problem last month.  Nairobi called his wife 2 weeks before
it expired and asked her if she can go to canada before the expiry date and told her to send her passport.  By the time they received her passport, her medical expiry was only 5 days away.  Her husband emailed nairobi and there response was that new medical form is being sent for her to complete and would process her application as soon as the results are received. so now she did that and is just waiting for results and visa.
so, i think you should email them and remind them medical expired and are waiting for new forms

Thanks Sammy & Ermikyimer
I have tried all channels except MP. They dont answer to emails, I even sent my wife to walk into the embassy 1 week b4 expiry of medicals but the watchmen at the gate told her that the officers were in a meeting; but she left them with a written enquiry and a reminder that the medicals are expiring in a week and was also told to leave them with her current contacts.

Now tomorrow am meeting my MP for further enquiries!

Thanks forum

GREAT NEWS!!! I just checked ecas and my status is now decision made!!!!  :)  My wife just emailed the embassy to find out if she can pick up her passport!

"We started processing (My wife's name) application on February 12, 2009.

Medical results have been received.

A decision has been made on (My wife's name) application. The office will contact (My wife's name) concerning this decision."
