FAQs:

* What if I fail the test?
If you happen to fail the test, you will be required to attend an oral interview with a citizenship judge. The judge will ask questions based on the study guide. If you do not pass the interview, you can appeal to the Federal Court or start from the beginning and apply to take the test again.

" Citizenship and Immigration Canada has published a new study guide entitled http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/discover/index.asp - Discover Canada . If you are taking the Citizenship Test in March 2010 or later, prepare for it by reading Discover Canada instead of A Look at Canada on which our practice test is currently based. We will be updating the practice test to reflect the content of Discover Canada before February 2010. "

How do I know whether to study the old citizenship study guide, A Look at Canada, or the new study guide, Discover Canada?

Study the new guide, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/discover/index.asp - Discover Canada , if:

    • You have applied for citizenship and your test or interview is scheduled in March 2010 or later. CIC will send you a copy of the new guide, even if you were already sent the old guide.

Study the old guide, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/look/index.asp - A Look at Canada , if:

    • Your test or interview is scheduled before the end of February 2010. A Look at Canada will continue to be available on the CIC website until March 2010. If you need a copy please contact the CIC call centre.

The Discover Canada study guide is a more comprehensive study tool and we encourage all applicants, regardless of when they are scheduled to write the test, to read and understand its contents.

I received the new booklet my mail this morning.

I quickly read the booklet again and I want to cry Cry.

I want my TEST BEFORE MARCH 1ST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good points Thumbs Up: The booklet is well organised and nice/easy to read

Bad points Thumbs Down: too many details  ---> 13 pages about the history of Canada Dead
                                                          ---> Sport, art section .....
                                                          ---> more bla bla bla
          ---> more bla bla bla
---> Did I mention more bla bla bla ? LOL

Conclusion # 1: The old booklet was obviously a joke as well as the test. I like the idea of more detailed one because as new citizens it is important to know Canada. However this new version it is way too much detailed. In the next booklet they will add the color of the Queen Victoria's underwear ! Tongue

Conclusion # 2 : Mr Kenny can now say that he's done something ..... !

Conclusion # 3: The money CIC spent in this new booklet could have been used to hired a lot of CIC agents.

Conclusion # $: Enjoy your reading Geek

Good luck everyone and Happy new year !

This new booklet has a lot more dates than the previous version. Do you think we should be memorizing every event date in the book?

Just seems so much material and not much online test simulation resources for this new test.

    Inmigrado,
Well make sure you resign on good terms, so that in case you ever need a letter of reference or etc from employer later on so you can request them later.

By the way when are you expecting your test inmigrado?

Oh yes it was on good terms. This was my client for 3 year, i practically worked there like an employee. And yes they will give me anything i want, as long as I help them train new person and make the transition smooth for them. And i don't have a problem with that anyways. Its a canadian LOCAL medium size business. Their reference will serve me well.
    Test date? IN A WEEK
    WEDNESDAY JAN 13 2010...

Collection of documents still on lol... gonna put everything in one binder, organized by purpose (housing, employment, bank statements, medical statements, tax returns, bills, etc... ) So, I will share my experience of the interview in a week...
A bit nervous yes of course, but confident and just...

inmigrado, have you received RQ from CIC? Just wondering... how do you know that they are going to hand you a RQ? and if they do, can you simply give your document to the officer on spot on your test date? is that why you are preparing yourself?

Yes got the RQ. How did I know? I didnt utill i came to this forum lol. If you have multiple absences, or bunch of citizenships, that kinda thing. i applied exactly 4 years after becoming PR. Maybe i should have done it sooner. I had one big absence in the beginning I am sure that did not help. I traveled a lot for work too... so...

I have no idea how they gonna take my RQ, before test, or @ the interview after test.  The letter says " bring it to the test/interview" I will know tomorrow as its my test date...
stick around and you will find out..

While studying, I noticed a difference...

Discover Canada says: First Nations: 65% and Metis: 30% Inuit: 4%

Look at Canada says: First Nations: 69% and Metis: 26% Inuit: 5%

I guess Discover Canada is the latest and thus correct.... increase in Metis (the mixed people).... how does that happen... LOL

people with old test used to worry only about getting RQ, we will worry about both, TEST AND RQ.....lol

Heaven forbid for any more Canadian Troop deaths in Afghanistan, but realistically there may be more over time. I don't understand why they included that in the book as it's a rising statistic and the information will be easily outdated.

i get what you mean.  prepare for questions that are not even in the booklet? Tongue

i really did look for this in the booklet since i finished reading it and thought i missed something.  there is only one reference to afghanistan and that did not include the numbers of casualty.  500 died and 1000 wounded in korea though.

    You know what General JBE,
You are doing a great job here, let me tell you why:
This way, you are motivating members to search for these info in the booklet, by doing that, the will get stuck.. no such info...what's going onErmm.
Then again, they will try to find the exact info, so they have to ead over and over to find these weired infoGeek in the booklet.
By doing this, they will read the booklet several times and will be 200% well prepared for the exam.
Keep it up General JBE, there are your stars StarStarStar

    * How many questions are there in the Canadian Citizenship Test?
    20 multiple choice questions.

    * How much time do I have to finish the test?
    30 minutes.

    * How many questions do I need to answer correctly in order to pass the test?
You need to finish with at least 12 questions correct. Moreover, you must correctly answer all questions about the topics of right to vote, right to run for elected office, voting procedures and how to register youself as a voter. The test paper will indicate which questions are the above mentioned ones.

I guess it will be still 20 and we need to finish with at least 12 questions correct plus we must correctly answer all questions about the topics of right to vote, right to run for elected office, voting procedures and how to register youself as a voter. There is no subject change in these topics... so new book does not make any big difference in the exam....

    Hi

Yes.  By perception, it looks like new test would be little tougher due to the following reasons:

    1. No previous experience or test questions

    2. New content is added in Discover Canada.

However, if you look closely, intention of CIC is to not to make test tough as it would definitely overload the system if more applicants are in backlog and already overburdened Citizenship judges have to accommodate Interviews(for test failed candidates) within their existing time slot.

    At the end,

    1. We still have to score only 60% and not 100%. (Even if the test is 20 questions or more). Compulsory questions are more on common knowledge questions of rights & responsibilities, voting issues rather than on history.

    2. Old test is legacy now. Let's forget and don't look back. By putting may be couple of extra hours on understanding" Discover Canada", we still can get through.

    3. CIC intention is not to fail applicants but to make applicants know more about Canada.(otherwise it would delay the process further and raise outcries)

    4. Good effort by our samaritan friends (JBE, Canvis2006 and so many) here shows that we have already question bank to practise.

Once some applicants take the test and the experiences known, the anxieties would ease and applicants would feel more comfortable

Most of the new immigrants are having good educational background and it would be easier to pass the test with reasonable effort of 10+ hours.

JBE: Great, the train is moving again.

I believe your test questions will be based on "A Look at Canada". It is clear in the letter that accompanied the Discover Canada booklet that if you received the notice for the test BEFORE March 15, 2010, your test will be under "A Look at Canada". Your notice will have a sticker on it that will say what study guide the test questions will be based on.

One interesting change of info between the "A Look at Canada" and "Discover Canada" are about the aboriginal people. In "A Look at Canada" they are the First Nations, Inuit, and the Metis. In "Discover Canada", they are now Indians, Inuit, and the Metis

After March 15, test would be information from "Discover Canada"

JBE letter states the test is on 2X.  It is in new test format.

Accompanying page with Notice states clearly (as in my case with test date being 22nd March, test would be on Discover Canada though notice mentions test on Look at Canada.

If you come for your citizenship ceremony, you must bring your original Immigration Record of Landing (not a photocopy or reproduction) and the Records of any minor children who are becoming citizens with you.  At your ceremony, your Record(s) of Landing will be stamped to update your status in Canada.  If you do not bring your document(s), your ceremony will be delayed to another time.

If your record of Landing has been lost or stolen, you must report to the local police.  It is very important that you contact the police immediately so that you do not experience further delays.

The police will tell you how to file a report.  When you come to your schedule citizenship ceremony, you must bring proof from the police that you filed a report.  Do not bring the report to the office until you come for your ceremony.
