I got rejected for a student visa in 2010 because I had overstayed my Study Visa for almost a year in 2007. I go to a 4-year univserity (UBC), and need to return to school.  When I left, I left voluntarily without getting any documents telling me to leave.
Is there a duration of years when overstaying disallows you from getting a visa? or is it purely on the judgement of the immigration reviewer?
if you can let me know, would be really appreciated. thx

Judgement of the immigration reviewer. You have to prove that you will return home once your studies are over and have no plans to stay in Canada long term. This will be more difficult for you to prove than the average applicant given your overstay in 2007.
