Subject: Medical examination for my dad

My parents are applying for visitor visa. My dad is 62 years old and my mom is 50. I was wondering, if my dad has to go through medical examination to obtain a visitor visa. If so, how long is the process?

I am expecting him to arrive here by end of May 2010.

FWIW, I am a permanent resident of Canada since 2007.

Your comments are appreciated.

Not enough information. If you parents are from a scheduled country http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/dcl.asp and they intend to stay for 6 months or more, then they both will require a medical.

If not then neither will probably require a medical.

Thank you very much for the reply.

My parents are applying for a visitor visa, which is limited to 6 months or less. I heard from my friends that there is an age limit for above which the visitors require a medical.

btw, I am from a designated country - India

I think that I would use what CIC posts on their web site, rather than what friends state: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-temp.asp

You are absolutely right. My parents received their visitor visa in less than 2 weeks. We applied directly to the embassy, no VFS.

No...There are no medical examinations for both of them. But, their Visa is limited to 6 months max. with multiple entry.

VFS --> I never applied through them. I can not comment on their service.

No interview in most cases. However, they may call for an interview, very very rarely.

I experienced this same issue with my father who is 70.  The visa took about 4 months to get, after a medical examination, and now that my parents are here, they are being asked to undergo more medical monitoring.  Did you experience the problem of being asked for medical follow-up tests or monitoring?  They are saying we have to pay for this cost of monitoring too of course.
