Babies born outside of Canada

I'm a PR and my husband is a Canadian citizen we are living in my home country at the moment. I'm due with twins in a couple of weeks and would like to take them to Canada in august or so so my husband's family can meet the babies. From what I've been reading it takes about a year for the kids to get passports so does that mean we'll have to get them a TRV for the trip?
