i am presently in Canada and i have applied for renewal of my PR card(Note: i have been in Canada for more than 730 days). I have to leave Canada (urgently) but during the time i am going to be away, my PR is going to get expired! But on the date of my departure (from Canada) my card will be alive! Would i get stranded in India or is there any other way i could get back in! I would like to know if i would have to obtain travel documents? or any other suitable alternative!
if my PR is ready when i am out of country and i do not have the obligation period(i.e. 1095 days passed out of Canada) to obtain my travel document? Will I still be able to get back into Canada to obtain my renewed PR card? |

So long as a PR remains in compliance with the Residency Obligation, and otherwise is not inadmissible (criminality for example), a Canadian PR are admissible as a returning PR.
While technically a PR returning to Canada is obliged to present a valid PR card at the POE, so long as the PR presents sufficient proof of identity and status (which is usually established contemporaneously with proof of identity, but possession of the expired PR card and/or landing papers is advisable) they will be allowed to enter Canada. In this scenario some questioning about compliance with the RO is likely, so the PR should be prepared to document presence in Canada in compliance with the RO. The real problem for a PR abroad with an expired PR card comes in boarding a flight destined for Canada: on flights to Canada, airlines are obligated to require all passengers to present travel documents proving authorization to enter Canada. An expired PR card will NOT suffice for this. When abroad you can apply for a Travel Document from the nearest Canadian Embassy. You will most likely have to present PROOF of compliance with the RO. This will authorize you to board a flight destined to Canada and also facilitate actual entry upon arriving at the POE for Canada. For whatever reason, at the moment my browser will not connect to the CIC website, so I cannot quickly offer a direct link, but as I recall information on applying for Travel Documents from abroad is readily accessible at http://www.cic.gc.ca |

Bureaucracy is what bureaucracy does, or When in doubt, follow the instructions. Otherwise, follow the instructions.
