Hello All,

My mother is in Canada with me and her visa is going to expire in Feb 2010. I am going to apply for an extention in next week and I was wondering if any one can give me some good piece of advice.

Basically there is no one in my homeland and she will be staying alone and I want her to stay with me while her application for the PRR is in-progress so I am going to apply for a one year extention.

Any suggestion that what should be good points.

Thanks,
Tahir

Hello Tahir,

I understand that your mother, while in the immigration process, wishes to apply for her temporary resident status extension. As you may know, she can apply on-line or mail her application to CPC Vegreville http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2009/2009-12-21.asp  http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp

Since your mother has a dual intent http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLish/study/institutions/intent.asp, the onus is on you to convince immigration officials that she will not overextend her TRS (Visitor's Status) in Canada and/or, in case of refusal of her PR application, will not end up staying here illegally. The absence of any relatives in her home country (in her case) is not terribly helpful but you have to be honest with CIC and provide them with all the requested information.

Therefore, you should attach all the necessary documents, such as CIC correspondence, your proof of employment, the last Notice of Assessment, Guarantor's Letter/Statutory Declaration in support of her application, etc.

Hope my info is helpful.

Good luck!

I think the Visa of your mother would get approved as she is old and it would be difficult for her to live alone. So the officers would approve her Visa as her son is living in Canada and has a job here.

Does this apply for people who come into Canada now as well?
