Hi,

I have a quick question. My husband and myself are applying for a Canadian PR through the express entry program. I am working in Canada in a work permit already and he is working in the US currently. We are initiating the FBI clearance from the US as per the work permit requirements.

I have a question regarding the same. Considering the long processing times for the FBI clearance, can he exit the US while the FBI clearance is being processed?

Thank you for you response in advance!

Yes, your husband can exit the US during processing of the FBI clearance. According to CIC, for the applicant’s current country of residence, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before submission of the online permanent residence application.

For countries in which the applicant no longer lives, the police certificate must have been issued after the last time the candidate lived in that country.
