The short answer to this question is yes, particularly if you are applying under the economic class.

The Canada Express Entry System includes Comprehensive Ranking System points for age as one of the core factors determining the long-term success of an immigrant.

The highest-scoring age range is 20-29, worth 110 points. As you get older, the points available drop. If you are 45 or older, there are no points available for age.

However, that does not mean you should give up. Even with zero points for age, there are still plenty available for other core factors, such as education, language and work experience. Plus, a provincial nomination secures 600 points by itself and effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply in the next Express Entry draw.

Meanwhile, under family class immigration, age becomes less of a factor.

The CRS Points Allocation System

  • Awards 460 – 500 points for a core set of human capital factors that drive economic outcomes such as:
    • Age
    • Level of education
    • Official language proficiency
    • Canadian work experience
  • Awards 40 points for spousal factors
  • Awards 100 points for a set of skills transferability or interaction factors that amplify the core set and,
  • Awards 600 points for candidates who have a validated provincial or territorial nomination and / or a qualifying offer of arranged employment
