Why has a potential employee been deported

 Good day all, I am looking to employ a person in the UK, he has been in Canada with his family for the past few years 2-3, but seems to have come back in a rush, selling his house, truck, RV, furniture etc etc, I have known this guy from the past and he seemed so happy with Canada, but will not seemingly divulge the truth for being kicked out of Canada, he says it was because he lost his job and couldn't find another.....I dont believe it, I smell a rat and do not want to have somebody on my workforce that may have a doggie record. 

How do I find out why he left Canada??....he is a British national and all his family are.......
