Applying OPEN WP extension Primary is Implied Stat

I am newbee to this forum and I have a question regarding my Situation.

I am on a work visa in Canada through my company . My spouse joined me on Dependent visa and applied for Open WP . He got a FT job in Canada. Now My WP is getting expired in Aug and I am filing for its extension through my company.
My company cannot file for the extension of my spouse open wp . My question is can I apply for my spouse open wp extension while my status is implied?

Also can my spouse stay in Canada while I am waiting for my WP and and our old WP has expired and I cannot apply for his WP extension?

1. No, you require an approved TWP before he can obtain another SOWP.
2. He would have to apply for an extension as a visitor.
