Ditto ditto.
I did this. I went to the local RCMP to get fingerprints, and then mailed the fingerprints to the States to obtain my FBI certificate. I did my medical locally in Canada as well . . . quite a bit cheaper than getting it done in the States. I stayed in Canada from beginning to end of the process (except, of course, for landing). I initially entered Canada as a visitor, without documentation of the entry (no passport stamp, no VR), then my wife and I subsequently decided to marry, we did marry, I applied to extend my stay in Canada and was given a VR that lasted well beyond the date my PR visa was eventually issued, then we applied for my PR and around four months later I was approved, sent in my passport and got my PR visa. All while staying in Ontario. (Did take a couple months to get the marriage certificate . . . we did it via the expedited process but in retrospect I think we could have gotten it sooner simply by applying for it through the ordinary online process.) |

Bureaucracy is what bureaucracy does, or When in doubt, follow the instructions. Otherwise, follow the instructions.

As redeagle said - this is all done by mail - you do not need to leave for police checks (State or FBI), nor do you have to leave to have your medical exam.
For help with the police checks - see here As far as listening to what the DMP's office says about photos - just ask how many. Ignore whatever they tell you about specs - use the specs in the region specific guide. My DMP's office gives out the worst information - she's a flipping idiot actually but, I have no choice other than to deal with her. Immigration photos aren't the same as passport photos, keep in mind that you have to send in a certain amount with the application also. Best bet is - figure out how many photos you need & have 'em all done at once. |

Used to be known here as "feb7" - there's no doubt to my gender this way

You can do this by mail, no need to leave to go back to Texas http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/cr-30.pdf

So I cannot get my FBI fingerprints and Police prints here in Toronto? I would have to leave the country again? That was what I was trying to avoid, wow. Just afraid of going back to Texas then not getting back in. There has to be an easier way besides leaving the country. Its financially impossible especially with fees regarding medical exam, applicaton fees etc. ya know? thank you so much for your response, I greatly appreciate it.

I'm sure there are others who know WAY more than me, but.... I had to be home in New York to get my FBI fingerprints and local police fingerprints for my two background checks.
Your medical will need to be with a designated medical practitioner in Canada, tho. If you just read the instructions for the family class sponsorship, all this will be explained pretty simply and straightforwardly. |

I still need to request my Certified Marriage Certificate. My other question is: Since I am from the US, Can I get my FBI background check here in Canada and my Medical Exam? How about my Police Record in Texas?

There's so much paperwork...If someone can just help me as in what to do first? This is my second time as a visitor in Canada. My husband and I were married December 23rd here in Canada. I am from the United States (Texas). My husband is Canadian with the Military (airforce) here in Trenton. I have til June 30th on my passport, but I plan on staying. Do we file "APPLICATION TO SPONSOR AND UNDERTAKING" FORMS and APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE together? And thank you to All of you that have helped me out with my questions. I am new to all of this and I want to do this right. |

we've been together for four years, but were only married in November. i haven't changed my name, and don't plan to change it. we were advised to wait to file the sponsorship and application until after we were married. so i'm having my medical tomorrow, and hope to send off the application immediately after.

When I called to book my appointment I asked about the photos and she said to bring in 4, I also asked for the size and she gave me the exact spec for them so it may be worth calling the DMP you are going to and asking exactlly what they want.
