Hi there once again ,
back with another complicated (or confusing) question...(being sponsored outland) On form IMM008-1e (Schedule1/Background Declaration) I am being asked to list all adresses where I have lived at since the age of 18. So, my question is - what is the legal definition of "living" here? My situation: For about 9 months during my PhD training back in Switzerland we had a collaboration with another place in Germany. So, officially I worked in Switzerland (my salary went on a Swiss bank accoung, and I also was a registered resident there), but I had to drive to Germany regularly and would also stay there for a couple of days. I never registered a residence in Germany, but one could somehow say that I sort of lived there temporarily??? Do I need to add this adress? ( I am assuming if I do I would also need a police certificate from there, which I am not sure I would get, since officially I was never registered there...) Maybe I am just too worried about this... And one other question - on the same form I am supposed to give my "personal history" (what I did every month in the last 10 years). How detailed does that have to be? Do I need to list all of my vacations/travels (if they were only 1-2 weeks)? Thanks for your help guys |

Hello,
If you would be there for more than a month continuous, you should mention it where you lived. You don't need a police certificate for it to proof it. For your personal history you need to mention your holidays also if they are only one of two weeks. You only must provide the month and the year you don't need to give the exact date. Good luck with the application |

Thanks for your reply citronela!
As for the police certificate - I know that I won't need it to prove it, however if I list it, I am thinking they would ask for it, since one needs to provide police certificates for all countries where one has lived (for more than 6 months)... Wow, so there is a lot of work ahead of me, since I have travelled a whole lot in the last 10 years (not only for vacation but also for work)....I had suspected that I need to list all of it, but had hoped I would not need to |

you can already start with using all your proceedings and your talks. That's the way I did it for me. Maybe you have the secretary of your former group which has all the information. Where do you plan to live in Canada?

simple
write down the address of all the places where you were in your physical self.... month and year the odd few days here and there are hardly worth quoting but you would not go long distances for just day or two.. that also ties in (double checked ) with what you have been doing..activity... job ,,holiday etc. |

Sami55, that is honestly impossible for me to do (at least concerning the list of adresses). I have been moving to different cities (and countries) about 10 times since I am 18 years old (I have all of these adresses, and that's what I listed on the form). But if we are talking about "being in my physical self, I would need to add to that about 1-3 trips per year for either vacation and/or visiting family/friends, and add to that between 2 and 4 trips per year where I was travelling work-related (mostly conferences of some sort). So, we would end up with probably close to 100 adresses (or more), at which I have physically been at some time point in my adult life. And I obviously don't even have all the adresses of all the hotels, apartments etc. I stayed during all of these trips.
I can of course list all (or at least most, the ones I remember...) of these in the "Personaly History" section, but hardly in the "List of Adresses" section. But maybe that's what you meant???

Yeah, I thought I will go back to my CVs, where at some timepoint I must have listed all of my talks/presentations...as for vacations I guess I will have to go look for photos...
I should probably have mentioned that before - I actually already live in Canada (Alberta), on a work permit. Shortly after I came to Canada I met my now common-law partner (who is Canadian), and he is the reason I am/we are applying for my Permanent Residence now I think we will end up living somewhere in Ontario (Ottawa, Toronto), since his family is there...

For conferences, work related trips and holidays you only need to put city and country, month and year. This is another section but I cannot remember which one any more.
For the real longer work stays, your stay during your study and the different places where you lived you need to put the complete adress. It needs an effort but it is possible. good luck |

my dear friend thats what you will have to do.... ie provide account of where you have been...and remember it is double checked with activities (job history) and the stamp on your passport and your employer addresses.. I know it is difficult if you have so many addresses , but do what you can... remember the IMM officer has to be satisfied that you have not been involved in anything sinister and untowards....so they do a background check which must tie win with all the other bits of the jigsaw pieces.. dont worry if you dont know the exact address of the hotel...write down as much as you can.. if it does become too vague and inconsistent or unaccounted then you run the risk of (request for details) and an interview and questioning sorry... do the best you can...but you have to try. you cant just leave gaps and hope that the I O will ignor it.. |

Hi sami55,
I realize I need to do that for all places where I actually worked/stayed for a long time. Like Citronela, I don't think though that I need the adresses for my vacations/trips (I will list them in the "Personal History" section though, stating City and Country) I think the IMM officers are already pretty confident that I have not been involved in anything sinister, since they already let me into Canada about 2 years ago ;) (and I doubt they would have, if they had suspected that I am a criminal) I was not planning on leaving gaps, I was just unsure about what "living" means in the eyes of the CIC (see my initial question, and the question if I then would need a police certificate for Germany as well). But I guess I will just call them next week to make sure.... |
