I work for a Canadian HR Consulting firm and part of my role is to do Resume Coaching. Resumes need to contain your key accomplishments and achievements vs just listing your responsibilities. the reader wants to know how you're a better candidate then someone else. Use a bullet statement format, vs long paragraphs. Each bullet statement should contain 3 pieces of information: What did you do? + How did you do it? + What was the result/benefit/value.
Two pages, is the guideline, but for very experienced and senior individuals, 3 pages is acceptable. Use a profile, or summary at the top of your resume vs an objective statement. Here is a link that will walk you through all the things you need to know about writing a resume for the Canadian marketplace with samples:

The shorter 2 page CV is , as previously explained, pretty much universal. it is the same in europe as well as canada!
No one reads long novels when shortlisting ...Good luck. |

The only other comment I'd add, is that Europe and Canada differ with some of the 'personal' information you put on a resume. It's important to clearly understand what is required from a content perspective when you're developing a resume for a new target market and/or target country.
Typically, a CV is the detailed, long version of your resume that may include 'everything' you've done in your career. Your resume is often focussing on the last 7-10 years of relevant career experience and highlights a number of your core achievements/accomplishments.
