Making this topic since there's no forum to discuss this. This topic is about health insurance for newly arrived immigrants that are waiting for their province's health coverage to kick in. For instance, Quebec won't cover you at most the first 3 months after landing so you're supposed to be privately insured for these months in case you get sick or something. I'm sure there are other provinces (Ontario and New Brunswick i think) that work the same and this topic would be valuable for people looking for valid insurance in Canada for this period of time. I hope others can pitch in with their input.

So far, this is the only one I've found: http://www.hsbc.ca/1/2/en/personal/insurance/travel-insurance/visitors-to-canada-plan

Which insurance?

From their website:
What are the eligibility requirements for a Blue Cross health insurance plan?

To apply for a Blue Cross health insurance, you must:

• Be a resident of the province of Québec
• Have a valid card of the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)
• Not be hospitalized
• Meet the eligibility criterias related to the selected plan (consult the list of health insurance plans)

The point of the thread is for insurance -before- your province covers you.

On Blue Cross, select 'Visitor to Canada', and then select "Immigrant", and enter the details to get the quotes.

Visitors to Canada Insurance is available for visiting friends and relatives, landed immigrants waiting to be covered under a provincial health insurance plan, and for individuals in Canada on a student or work visa.
