Way too much after application fees, extension fees, lawyers fees for appeal, new medical, new FBI, etc. It starts to feel like extortion.

Robsluv: I hope your Immigration Experience is over soon!! You have been going through this "Trial" for way too long...It just goes to prove your relationship is genuine if after 3 1/2 years your still trying to get PR and didnt give up after the first application!! I have heard Appeals are Time consuming and can take a long time

Sami55 My list is just PR application only it doesn't include the cost of all of my flights to and from Canada over the past 5 years, the cost of my pregnancy in Canada (10,000) and all the money my Husband sent me to help support our daughter when I was in the UK!

Ours is only slightly less than yours, Brit. Being from the States (and currently living in Washington) has really helped with the cost of visiting each other, though paying rent on two different places is a cost that I really resent. We didn't have a fancy wedding, either, so the only cost was miscellany like dress, flowers, etc. for me (and a haircut for Bryan!). But it all REALLY adds up, more than you'd expect; for example, like you mentioned, getting photos printed is a cost (plus I got a new printer here so I could do all the forms, etc.). I also have the added cost of an ARC application to remove my exclusion order (though at the rate we're going, it'll expire before I ever get approved!). I've been keeping a timeline and a cost-line, so it'll be nice when I can finally tuck it into a box so I never have to look at it again!
Edit: I forgot I'm going to have some additional costs to import my car (I have to get some items installed on it, plus fees). Edited by ArityMonk - 17 Aug 2010 at 9:01pm |

Our case has taken two years, so there has been a lot of flights back and forth between Canada and the UK (and elsewhere) when my partner's visitors stay was up every six months or so.
My partner views her cost of immigration to include not only the fees, hotel fees, flights...but also the opportunity cost of her not being able to work; some $40,000 a year. So if you throw that in the mix as a justifiable 'cost' (well, its technically revenue she hasn't received, but) then in her eyes that's $100,000. |
