Redraven, not true... I'm just finishing up a Maternity Leave and my husband has been here for 6 months, (11 months of processing time from sponsorship approval). You do have to have enough qualifying hours for EI though based on your region. |

Just wanted all the lurkers out there to know that everything is great here!!!
The hubby has been in Canada now for 6 months!!! AJ is now 6 months old and while the winter was damn cold for a Jamaican... we're loving life now that we're together. It was worth the wait. I know that some days it will seem like an eternity before you see your partner again, but when that day comes the journey will have been worth the wait :) And to those nasty rumors that the hubby left the kids and I and went to LA.... wtf?? get a life people! lol (I've got a life now so I haven't spent as much time on the computer... FarmVille on the other hand is another story lol) Best wishes, I love all of those that keep in touch! And remember to the newbies, if you ever have questions, just send an email.... after going through hell to get my husband to Canada I'll answer any questions you have about the process or even after they get here! Cheers! |

My fiance and I got married on March 30/10. We are now starting the long and tedious process of completing his application for permanent residency and my sponsorship application. Does anyone know how to go about getting a police clearance?
Also, a family member told me that if I sponsor my spouse I am not entitled to receive maternity benefits from employment insurance within the 3 years I agree to financially support him. Is this true? I'm not pregnant but we do plan on having children. This does present a problem should I get pregnant.
Any help would be much appreciated!

greetings all...
first time posting, so quick overview/introduction before i ask my question...
married my husband in may of 09, i was 5 months pregnant at the time... We submitted our paperwork on Sept 30, the day before our son was born... I was approved for sponsor October 22, processing began on Nov 11.... we got a letter Feb 8 saying we need to bring in proof of our son's birth certificate.. I took my maternity leave here (in jamaica) so had the b/c with us... we submitted that feb 9...
today (feb 22) we got a phone call saying we must bring in the birth certificate again since they have misplaced the copy, along with my husband's passport so they can finalize the immigration process...
first, am i correct in assuming that this is it, we're done?
and secondly, how long does it take for us to get his passport back?....
i've been enjoying living in jamaica and plan on being here a couple more months at least (not looking forward to going back to winter, we'll wait it out :) ), but it'll be nice to know we're READY!!!
thanks for the help and best of luck to you all!!!

I'm not sure how much you need to show but they count assets too. So the previous poster's mother-in-law had a business so that is considered a big asset and the $120k was enough. The person I know just got an insurance settlement and showed $400k. His car was the asset he showed.

My mother in law got a visa and she had $120k in the bank. ( jamaican) She owns her house and she has had her own business for 20+ years.
