I am bit confused with the fees . I am planning to sponsor my common law wife and my 8 year old
son ...could you please help me with the right fees

1: $550, $490,$150 total $1190: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/inFORMation/fees/result.asp?countrySelect=CA&lob=fc
2. You don't have to pay the Right of PR fee (490) upfront, but it saves time.
