Hello guys, I hope you are all doing great. Although my question is long, please bear with me.

Please note that I am re-posting this question based on the advice of one of the good members of this forum.

I landed in Canada in September of 2008, and I hold a PR card. I've been here for approximately a year and a half I'm staying at my brother's house (who has a citizenship) and I've been applying for jobs online but to no avail. Although I was depressed, I always thought that hey, at least I'm spending time here and getting closer to acquiring a citizenship (which I am in dire need of). Now, the problem:

When I first entered Canada, I had the Canadian visa pasted on my passport as well as the date of entry stamped on it. My passport expired in April of 2009, and I never used it except for entering Canada (I never left here). Lately, a friend told me that I cannot prove my stay in Canada since I have no job, and when I told her that my passport was expired and that it had no visas, dates of entry/exit stamped on it which meant that I couldn't have left the country--she still thought that this was not proof as I could have gotten a new passport and travelled with it all over the world and when the time came, I could show the old passport to the authorities in order to trick them into thinking that I never left in the first place.

This was very shocking of course, because the idea of me wasting a year and a half and gaining nothing is depressing, to say the least.

Now, I am applying for a new passport, which I will use to travel to see my family (I will spend 2 months out of Canada) which means that the duration of time spent outside will show in the new passport.

My question is this: When the time comes that the authorities will calculate the duration of my physical presence in Canada, will the old passport (which shows no travelling whatsoever), combined with the new passport (which shows only 2 months spent outside Canada) prove that I spent this whole time in Canada, or can they say "no, this is not enough proof"?

Keep in mind that I have all the e-mails I sent to companies in Canada, and I went a few times to the doctor's office where I got my OHIP health card swiped... As I said before, I have no job, no visa card, no major bank transactions, and all bills are made out to my brother since I live with him. Please help me...

@JBE

Wow I never expected that these forums had some ignorant fools. At least READ what I wrote:

"I've been here for approximately a year and a half I'm staying at my brother's house."

Although I just prefer that you get lost.

blacknucci,
the only thing that it comes to my mind is to ask your consulate to provide you a letter which says that no passport has been issued for you during that time.

Yes, kal_ottawa - JBE has been getting on lots of people's sensibilities and nerves here.  As far as we know he's the only one who does.

blacknucci,
Actually CIC will check with CBSA (Canadian Border Service Agency). If there is no entry, means no trips. I guess that you will renew your passport in canada which is a good thing.
Try to find the proof that you do not have a second citizenship (means second passport).
good luck!!

Blacknucci,

Please do not mind of JBE silly posts. He is a jerk when it comes to understand the needs and worries of other members.

Now you should know that unfortunately, there's a chunk of PRs who don't succeed to get a stable job, so lots of guys apply after 3 years residence without having a stable job. I don't know if your consulate will issue the paper you've been advised to get (no other passport issued other than the 2), but make sure to keep the old one or have a copy of it.

Step 4 when applying is:  Clearances are requested electronically from:
• Immigration (Query Response Centre [QRC]);
• the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP);
• the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS).

Make sure that your days of absence you will fill in the online residence calculator match the real ones since it's a major reason to get a RQ. Canada Border Services Agency keeps tracks of your entries.

Now I know that it's not easy to get one's mind cool when facing idleness, but I would advice to get oneself busy with any activity. Have you considered volunteering as it could help you networking.
