Credential Evaluation in Canada,

Hi all,

Shucks guys, am I happy to see that the forum exists. I was trying to post a question on the old one...and seriously thought it had been shutdown.  I've got a question here and I'd really be grateful if I could get as much perspective as possible.

My wife is to come to Canada (as a PR) in Oct. However, before that I'd like to lay the ground for her by finding a course for her to enroll in, prior to posting her resume online. She has about 6 yrs work experience ranging from a call center rep to 2 yrs as senior branch manager for Reliance Life Insurance. She wants to work here as soon as possible but I suggested doing a course or a bridging course to start with. My questions are as follows;
1. Will her work experience come on handy here? She doesn't want to carry on in insurance but something related to sales.
2. I wanted her to do a degree here but it seems she has to write the GMAT for that and since this path would take alot of time (family planning and all)...we're thinking about going against it. She wants to do a course in customer retainment and anything related. Do you know of colleges / universities offering this or courses related to this? I'm in the networking field here in Toronto and have absolutely no idea where to look and whom to ask. Even suggesting career counselors would be a big help.
3. I was also thinking of having her credentials (B.COM) evaluated but is this really worth the money and time? How will it come in handy? To me this is just a huge money making racket...
4. If credential evaluation is worth it, then could you help me decide between WES and CES?

Any suggestions guys? Much appreciated...

Thanks alot Tanushree....that was a big help. Any idea about evaluating your credentials? Is it something really worth the time and money? Reason being, if it could give us an idea as to what level of education it compares to here in Canada, couldn't she just do the required courses instead of a whole course?

What is the scope of doing a bachelors in commerce (with a specialisation) here....as far as job prospects are concerned.

From the way I understand it, you suggest doing a bachelors degree then. And in order to complete the degree in 2 yrs rather than in 4, I'd need to have her credentials evaluated? Or would it be enough if I got in touch with someone from that specific department in the University to ask if she could get come credit for her 15yrs of education?

My wife wants a career in sales (specifically in customer retention). I have tried searching for courses for the same (customer retention) but haven't found any yet. I did speak with a person about this and they said that there isn't any specialised course in customer retention....it's just something that is part of sales. If I asked her to consider a profession in teaching....well, you just might not find me in this world ever again . She the type of person who loves to play with fire if you know what I mean and so a relaxing career for her is something that would be very stressful for me.

Another thing I don't really seem to understand are the terms undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate. Is undergrad-12th, grad-bachelors and post-grad - masters? She's done with her BCom right? but she doesn't have 16yrs of education so would that make her a high-school student or bachelor, when applying for courses here?

So a degree would have a better weight than a cert or diploma or advanced diploma for that matter? Is it possible to get a decent job here with a degree or does one have to have a Masters? I did run a search for account managers and sales managers and others on the same line but most of them did not specify an educational level.
