    Posted: 04 Dec 2009 at 7:50pm

I have been in Canada for a year on a student visa but have not been able to attend any tertiary institution due to financial problems. I am accompanying my parents and will be able to attend from next january. Will I be in trouble because I did not attend school last year?

Any help in this matter will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Your study permit is no longer valid because you did not abide by the conditions. You were supposed to be in school except for holiday breaks etc.

Application sent May 13, 2010
Started processing July 22, 2010.
Decision made March 7, 2011
Landed April 13th 2011
The whole process took exactly 11 months!

Indeed, you will be facing an uphill battle on your SP extension application due to your failure to abide by the conditions.
You will basically making an H&C pitch on your SP application and these are highly discretionary decisions. It will be up to the VO and the strength of your application. It won't be easy!

good luck,

You need a TRV to be able to enter Canada, either a visitor visa if the course you want to take is 6 months or less, or a student visa.
