When my wife arrives in Canada, we plan to begin the application process for her resident visa and work permit.

My questions are as follows:

1) Is there any paperwork that my wife can begin in the next 8 months before arriving in Canada that could potentially speed up the whole application process?

2) We are hoping that my wife can fly to Canada on a one-way plane ticket. Because i won't be accompanying her when she lands in Canada and goes though customs, will she have any difficulty entering Canada with no return flight ticket?

3) What kind of Canadian visa should my wife have when landing in Canada? Her present Taiwanese passport entitles her to a 6 month landing visa in Canada. Can a landing visa eventually be changed into a resident visa? What would be the best steps to take here?

1. As a Canadian citizen living abroad, you can start the sponsorship now. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp
2. There is a very good chance that the airlines may not let her board with a one-way ticket and if she arrives, she may not be admitted as her intention is to remain permanently rather than visit.
3. Her passport MAY allow her to remain as a visitor for up to 6 months. See #2
