Well, Initially you have to complete three years of residency in Canada to become eligible to apply for citizenship.

After applying, your application will take at least 25 months to complete it. In some other cases, it may take even a 48 months!

What is important that, you keep the required documents for Residency Questionnaire upon landing in Canada (refer to RQ Discussion Topic).

Good luck!

A Permanent Resident becomes eligible to apply for citizenship three years after landing (may be up to a year sooner if the PR was, previous to landing, living and physically present in Canada with status, such as on a work or study permit, prior to landing).

However, not all PRs who are eligible to apply for citizenship meet the qualifications for a grant of citizenship. To be qualified for the grant of citizenship, the PR must meet certain requirements beyond just having been a PR long enough, and in particular have been resident-in-Canada for at least three years out of the four years preceding the date they apply.

Unfortunately, beyond the obvious, the individual who has established a household in Canada, lived there, and been actually, physically present for at least three years in those four, what constitutes being resident-in-Canada sufficient to meet the residency requirement is not entirely clear.

Safe approach is to arrive in Canada, settle and live and work in Canada for at least three years, and be actually physically present for at least 1095 days, after the date one has established an actual place of residence, and keep good records as to having established a place of residence, maintaining a place of residence, and one's employment. Keep exact records of international travel dates. Then apply.

Of course, in the meantime the law may change. There has long been claims that Parliament was going to amend the residency requirement for example. There was a very strong expectation that would happen this last year and it did not, and now the Conservatives appear to have many other things to deal with, so it is unclear what direction this will go in the next few years.
Bureaucracy is what bureaucracy does, or When in doubt, follow the instructions. Otherwise, follow the instructions.

BTW: Not an expert, not a Can. lawyer, never worked in immigration

In addition to what others already said, you also have to have been PR for at least 2 years so that you qualify to apply for Canadian citizenship.

Sometimes it does not take that long. The application might take shorter time if you are not given an RQ and your application is clear. Also, certain visa offices process applications faster than others. My timeline from sending the application to citizenship oath took 12 months and 8 days.
