We both are on the same page. I applied in Nov. 2009 and still waiting further action after submitting my RQ in June 2011. The only difference is that we took our test in January 2011; RQ was sent in May 2011. I recently talked to an Immigration lawyer who told me to wait for 36 months from the RQ submission date. He told me that in these cases CIC wants to make sure the applicant/s stays at least 36 months after submitting the RQ. Don't know if it is true or not?

As far as our PR cards are concerned, they were renewed within 25 days without any issue as I did attach my T4 and listed working places and school names for my kids. We applied for six family members. The only thing that I wanna highlight here and could be an important issue for somebody that CIC st. Clair send us a letter asking my eldest daughter to pick her card by herself as she turned 18 at that time.

- I renewed my PR card Dec. 2012 first time after expiry.
- I called CIC last week and there is no update yet on my file. I am not sure if there is any restriction for numbers of calls to CIC for having an update/s
- I requested ATIP twice for myself and my spouse; nothing important to mention.
But
Do you have any important information as to why our files are taking that long? I believe you are more active in this forum and your reply would be more reliable than any other source.

Waiting for your reply.

You can call the CIC call centre as much as you'd like, though it's important to remember that the information you will receive will hardly be informative or all encompassing. Other than waiting to hear directly from the CIC, requesting your file notes is the best way to go, and you've already done that. When was your most recent request?

Not Greeny, nor anyone else on this forum can tell you what is going on with your file, other than that it has been way, way, way too long and you are definitely in an unusual situation since you're waiting for 51 months.

At this stage I would suggest that you do the following:
1. Call the CIC call centre and ask them to send a note to the local office (I am guessing Mississauga, or St. Clair) requesting an update on the file.
2. I would also send letters directly to your local office (Call centre can confirm which that is) asking for an update on your case. Send it via registered mail so that you have a confirmation of delivery and also a signature of the person accepting the letter.
3. Copy your Member of Parliament on that letter and ask them to contact CIC on your behalf.
4. LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY consult a lawyer. You have been waiting far too long and need a qualified opinion/assistance to help you understand what has caused such a delay. Neither I, nor Greeny, nor anyone else on this forum can provide you with an opinion that matters or is helpful.

How do you request "Notes" on your file? I requested ATIP twice. Are these notes or something else?

When you submit a request under the Access to Information and Privacy acts (ATIP), you have an option to order two types of citizenship notes:
- Electronic files, which usually are the most informative ones and are a print-out of your case from the Global Case Management System (GCMS); or
- Paper files, which in effect are what comprises the binder with your documents, application, supporting docs, RQ that are sitting at the local office. In my experience these don't offer much in terms of insights since everything that's OTHER than the information you submitted as part of your application process is blackened/whited out.

Did you order the electronic or paper files?

Hi Greeny

ATIP's normally come in a month if it is electronic. Did you do electronic or paper. Also did you choose privacy act or the Right to information act ($5 one). I got mine in a exactly 30 days.

By the way, went to the MP's office last week. They called up CIC on my behalf through the MP's line. But the call does not go the local office. So it was not very helpful as they gave them the same answer as they give me. I have to wait till Mar 11 for my 2nd 3 months to get over and then call them again.

All this period we were told by CIC that for Non routine cases the time is 35 months. Since the processing time for such cases on CIC website is now 36 months, does that means that local office has to wait 36 months and not 35 to start sending the note "inquiry" to St. Clair office.

I don't remember it to be 35, it is 36 months for sure, but then you have a right only for 2 inquires.
