Hi, I am a PhD in English Literature & a professor at an undergraduate college. I am married but want to immigrate to Canada on my own to further my professional career in research and teaching. After 22 years of marriage my husband has no interest in immigrating or working for a living. He basically lives off his parents (my in-laws). Is it possible to apply and immigrate by my self?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

Yes you can always immigrate by yourself.
You will have to identify in your application forms whether your husband and each of your dependent children (if any), whether will accompany you or not. All your dependents and husband will have to undergo the medical exam. You won't have to pay landing and processing fees for non-accompanying members
