Hi. I have created this topic from the point of view that existing immigrants in Canada should share the information about the life in Canada, facilities, opportunities, problems and to alarm prospecting immigrants about any wrong decisions or actions. Incoming immigrants need such information to make the major decisions of their life. So we should also give some recommendations to them based on our experience. I believe such information is most crucial for new applicants and they can take lesson from our mistakes and can have better and successful life here in Canada. If someone needs information regarding any aspect of life in Canada, other than immigration process, he or she can put question here and any of the members can response. Best wishes. www.apnavisa.com |

Very good topic,
This way, all prospective immigrants would have an idea about the life style in canada, difficulties, and key answers for the major start-up questions.
However, this link leads to a private services provider, does it intend to attract forum members to seek private consultations and payable services?

Our yesteryear's veteran members who have moved to Canada from their home countries and by now are experienced enough to share their own with rest are requested to do their bit of contribution . This would be an interesting reading to follow. Great !

That link (apnavisa.com) is also just an information website which provides information about the life of immigrants in Canada. The purpose is to provide helpful information to newcomers. No consultations and no fees etc.

This is strictly my personal experience and shouldnt be taken as apply-for-all kind of theory. I moved to Toronto from NYC during the 2006-2007 time period. I have also spend a good amount of time in various parts of India (mostly in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Calcutta, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai). In simple terms, huge contrast in life in India Vs. life in Canada. Not so much in life in US Vs. life in Canada. The most important aspect I have observed in Canada is the acceptance shown to immigrants into the Canadian society. Nowhere else I have seen people being generally friendly and helpful. However, this kind of acceptance is less visible as you move to job market where people somehow are prejudiced against immigrants. I have seen that this is mostly due to ignorance rather than due to a racist mentality. There is a high level of tolerance towards cultural and religious differences and Canadians are generally more accomodating when it comes such differences.
However, when it comes to cost of living, Canada is a completely different picture. Day to day living expenses are generally high for such an advanced country as Canada. We pay more for gas, groceries, tax, clothing, insurance and almost all type of services when compared to our neighbour from the south of the border. We are seeing the baddes and meanest effects of free market capitalism here. On the other hand, the salary scales are generally lower here than that of the US. However, the banking and financial institutions are more tightly regulated and hence the volatility of the US markets are not generally reflected here. In other words, financial stability is more on this side of the border.
Community and social welfare system here is one of the best among the developed countries. I have heard of horror stories about wait times in ER and for specialist care. However, during my 3 year stay here, I am yet to come across such a scenario here. I feel that I got all the services I needed - but then again I have never done an MRI or CT Scan here, but my wife did have to do ultrasound and needed some specialist care and so did my son for speech therapy - in relatively quick fashion (though not as quick as it would have been in US) and we never had to wait in the ER for more than 3 hours (most often we were seen by the triage in under an hour). And the Govt. helps the families in many ways possible. An example is during the last recession, they have offered free re-training programs for those who lost their job. Such help and support is never seen in many first world countries.
People coming to Canada from India should brace for extreme weather if your coming to the eastern Canada or to the provinces which are closer to the arctic circle. However if you are headed towards the west cost, the situation wont be as bad.
Also, you should have a lot of patience towards settling down process here. For many success in life may not be immediate. You really need to give it sometime and also be ready to toil if necessary. I believe that with persistance, proper planning and hard work, you can be as successful as any successful Canadian is.

Yes Saskatchewan is freezing. Opportunities are everywhere in Canada for the doctors but the problems are too many requirements to be licensed. But once you become certified, you can move anywhere in Canada. |
