Sure!
Sept 2011 - Applied for family class sponsorship within Canada (also submitted the work permit application and medicals/police record checks)
Aug 2 2012 - Received AIP (approved in principle and about two weeks later received the actual work permit)
Aug 2 2012 - Began processing the Permanent Resident application
Nov 2012 - Received an email saying a decision had been made in the Permanent Resident application and that the local CIC office would be in contact with us.
Jan 10 2013 - Received a call from the local CIC to come in on Jan 16 2013.
Jan 16 2013 - Was granted PR status.
Keep in mind, when first applied, the processing times for the first half of the application (AIP) was at 11 months. It's since gone way down. I am not sure, but i have a feeling, that because I submitted medicals and all that in the begining, it took less time for the second half of the application (the actual PR part). Reason being, is because they didn't have to get back to us, us go for medicals, the doctor send out the results etc...cut down some time.

Hi! Same thing happened to me, we received the "decision had been made" around the begining of November. CIC contacted us on Jan 10th to come to the local office on Jan 16. We went in, they asked if we still wanted to continue with the process (well they asked me that as i am the sponsor) and I said yes then they just said "ok congratulations, you are now a permanent resident of Canada" (to my husband) they went through the rules and that was it. Sounds to me you are getting your residency very soon! Congrats. I am sure if there was an issue, you would have heard by now.
Normally they said they send a letter telling you when to come in, however they were extremely behind so they decided just to call us. I am in Ottawa, so it's prob just that office. Also with it being xmas and all, people were probably on holidays etc...
Good Luck!

Hi everyone,
My wife is Canadian and I am an American. We married in March of last year (wedding in Canada) and I have been living with her in BC as a visitor. Our application was accepted on June 8th, 2012. She was approved to sponsor me on August 8th 2012. Medical results were received last summer and have been showing received on the IC website. In September we applied for a visitors extension. This extension was approved early January 2013 and permits me to continue to visit through September of 2014. Today I logged on to the website to check my status and it says a decision has been made: We received [your] application for permanent residence on June 8, 2012. We started processing [your] application on January 15, 2013. Medical results have been received. A decision has been made on [your] application. The office will contact [you] concerning this decision. I have a squeaky clean background check and good medical history so we are hopeful this means approval. If I have been approved for residency does this mean I can expect the correspondence from IC to tell me to come in for a stamp or is there more waiting that usually happens? I realize every case is different but was hoping to get a ballpark estimate or hear how long it had taken other people after seeing this update on the website. Thanks for your assistance! |
