I'm sponsoring my wife from Pakistan as we've just got married. Currently in the process of completing all the application forms and documents.

My question is that all her documents are in her maiden name. With the Nikah Nama (marriage certificate) she can get her NIC/Passport in the new married name but her educational documents will still be in her maiden name. Is it advisable to get new NIC/Passport in married name and use that name on application while the rest of her documents are in her maiden name? Or should we just use her maiden name for everything and get a name change later on when she is here?

Thanks!

This question keeps on coming up, common sense is required somewhat in this situation.

On the application for PR form you are asked for your name and any previous names, including maiden name.

If a passport is now in a new married name then the application should go in the new name, a note can be added to explain documents such as qualifications, education certificates, etc being issued in a different name, it can then be cross referenced with the sponsorhip paperwork and the IO will see that it coincides with the documents in the maden name.

Also there is the added option of using the maiden name for the application, no one is required by law to take on their partners name, but if someone is currently using their married name and then applies in their maiden name, this is giving false information.

Applying in ones maiden name, getting married and not informing CIC of a name change is not however giving false information, but they should be advised accordingly.

"Will this matter a year from now?"
Probably, this is gonna be a one hell of a long journey.
