I am currently in Canada on an International Experience Canada Visa. This will expire in March 2013.
I have received a job offer as a Receptionist from a company which I am currently doing temp agency work for. My Common Law partner currently has residency and is working as a local Truck Driver. I can't apply for change of circumstances on my work permit as Receptionist is not likely to get an LMO. Is there any other way in which I could extend my stay and still be able to work without actually applying for residency? I would only wish to stay for another 6-12months. Any assistance at all, even if only to tell me there's no way it can be done, would be greatly appreciated.

You can see if you qualify to apply for a second IEC. Depending on which country you're from - sometimes this is allowed.
Failing that - you need an LMO. |

Just to clarify - when you say your common law partner has "residency" - do you mean permanent residency (PR) status in Canada or something else?

I am already on my 2nd IEC. I had one in 2010 and now I have this one for 2012 so I don't think I am eligible for another one.
Yes he has Permenant Residency in Canada and we are both from the UK. Looks like I'll probably just have to leave in March. Thank you for your help

If he's a PR - then you don't qualify for an open work permit.
The LMO is your only option if you want to keep working. If you want to stay and cannot get an LMO/closed work permit, then you can convert your status to visitor (this will allow you to stay but not work). |
