How to track the status of visa

Hi,

I have submitted my work permit application along with my family visa at the VFS office, Chennai, India. It's been almost a month I have submitted the application and I used to track the status of my application through VFS website. The status will be always "your application is being processed at Visa office Bangalore, India". When I tried calling the customer care number, they too give the same information.

Can anyone tell me, is there any other way to get more information on the status of the application. Since I haven't yet booked my tickets and my tentative joining date is Jan 1, 2016, any additional information on the status of my application will be helpful in planning the travel.
