Generally there is an interview with an officer right after the test, where first of all applicant finds out whether they passed or failed (from what I've heard, they will now schedule one "re-take exam" to give another chance, after second failure they will refer to the judge). The officer also checks travel documents for travel evidence and may ask additional questions, and as a result they could give a form requesting additional travel history (like entry/exit records from US/Canada) or even a full RQ. They could theoretically send an RQ notice later in the main. Generally, if all goes smooth, they'll simply invite for a ceremony in a couple of months.

The process, as I understand it, now works as follows.
CIC officers are trying to make sure CJ routinely only gets cases which they can approve easily. So if at the time of test/interview CIC officer decides that there are some issues with the case, then CIC will proactively issue mini-RQ or RQ on the spot, right after the test. (They will prepare it after interview while you are writing the test.) They do it to make CJ's job easier. If they don't do that this means they believe CJ will have no problem approving the case and they submit the case to CJ for a simple approval the night after test. So normally CJ will just approve and you're scheduled for oath - normally in the next month or two. The only situation when you did NOT get RQ or mini RQ at the time of test, but will get it before oath, is when CIC believed your case is clear but CJ got a problem with it. Since CIC is much more adversarial than the CJ against the applicant, these are real exceptions. So normally if you did not get RQ or mini RQ at the interview, you are streamlined for oath. This all applies to current process and not to what was happening 2/3 years ago. Edited by ski - 12 Jun 2015 at 3:48am |
