My wife and I (Canadian PRs) would like to sponsor our 1 year old daughter for PR. CIC says that to sponsor, a PR must “reside in Canada.” (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob386.asp)
My questions are: 1. Is residence required only when submitting the application, or for the entire duration of the application process? (And how exactly have you come to this conclusion? Sounds very ambiguous to me) 2. If short visits are okay (does it officially say they are anywhere?), what length of absence is acceptable? (again, any official source?) 3. Is the residence requirement the same irrespective of whether it be an inland or outland application? Thanks ever so much! |

Hi
1. Must remain in Canada from the date of the application until the "landing" if you are PRs. Sec 130(1) of the Regulations http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/page-49.html#h-71 2. A two or 3 week visit would probably be allowed. 3. Well there are no "inland" applications for dependent children and yes the residency requirement applies. |
